1.that既可指人，也可指物。指人时相当于who、whom，指物时相当于which。在从句中作主语或宾语或表语，作宾语时一般可省略。1)Aplaneisamachinethatcanfly.（主语指物）2)ThenoodlesthatIlookedweredelicious.（宾语指物）

3)Let’saskthemanthatisreadingthebookoverthere.（主语指人）4)ThegirlthatwesawyesterdayisJim’ssister.（宾语指人）

2.which指物，在从句中作主语或宾语或表语，作宾语时常可省略。Theyplantedthetreeswhichdidn’tneedmuchwater.（主语）2)Thefishwhichweboughtwerenotfresh.（宾语）

关系词先行词在从句中充当的成分who人主语、宾语、表语whom,which,that在从句中作宾语时，常可以省略，但介词提前时后面的关系代词不能省略，也不可用who和thatwhom人宾语that人、物主语、宾语、表语which物主语、宾语、表语whose人、物定语

3.thatwhich的选择that和which在指物的情况下一般都可以互换,但在下列情况下,一般用that而不用which。(1)先行词为all,everything,nothing,something,anything,much,little,few,none等不定代词时。Iamsureshehassomething(that)youcanborrow.
